First Time User Registration

To place a document service request you must first fill out our registration form.

Registration has three purposes:

  • It allows you to enter your user information once and avoid re-entering for future requests.
  • It allows you to have your addresses on file so we can contact you and deliver materials efficiently.
  • It allows you to choose a unique username and password, your key to secure access to information about your requests and the option to review the list of items you have requested.

Use your account to meet your searching, delivery and invoicing needs.

  • Create a separate account for each authorized user in your organization. Link these accounts with a single billing address so documents may be delivered to the individual user while billing information is directed to a central location.
  • Protect the confidentiality of each user in your organization. Your Linda Hall Library access accounts will allow your authorized users to check the status of requests they have placed. Each user can access only those requests placed through his or her individual account.
  • Create multiple billing accounts to afford your organization maximum payment flexibility. Accounts may be created to allow payment by invoice, LHL deposit account and major credit card. Authorized users will be able to choose their preferred method of payment on a request-by-request basis, from a simple pull-down menu.
  • Change account information as needed by choosing the appropriate options in the main menu.

Tips for placing an online request.

  • Choose "Request a Photocopy" or "Request a Book Loan".
  • For photocopies and book loans, enter complete bibliographic information to expedite delivery.
  • Indicate copyright compliance with each document request. Choose "LHL should pay copyright" and Linda Hall Library will make arrangements to clear copyright for the copy provided. The copyright fee will be added to the cost of the document for ease of payment. Copyright must be paid for all requests received from commercial or individual requesters.
  • If you have an existing financial account with the library please provide your account number to ensure accurate billing.
  • Please provide an email address where you may be notified in case we are unable to supply a request. If you do not provide a notification email address you may check the status of your request by accessing your account.
  • An FAQ is available for document and loan requests. If you have a question about requesting a paper or loan not answered in the FAQ please call us at 1-800-662-1545.

Important Copyright Information

WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS.

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One specified condition is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgement, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of the copyright law.

Copyright payment must be paid for requests delivered to academic institutions outside the United States, individuals and for–profit entities. If you are concerned about copyright costs, please designate a maximum fee you are willing to pay for your request. For on–line requests, you may do this by using the Maxcost feature on our request form.  If copyright costs would cause the fee for your request to exceed your maxcost you will be notified before your request is processed.  You may also email the library at requests@lindahall.org to request the copyright fee for a paper.

Please read the terms and conditions for electronically delivered requests.

By pressing this button you acknowledge and agree to all of the terms and conditions above. Please pay particular attention to the copyright statement when requesting documents. After reading this information, you can press the "First Time Users Click Here" button to continue.
